Lake Stevens Group Brick

This past Saturday we had our first (ok, technically second) group workout. A few of us are doing the upcoming Lake Stevens 70.3, so we headed up to preview the course. Tammy (me), Eric, Mandy (new member), and Carla (new member crossing over from the road team) are doing the 70.3 on July 6th. Heather is training for an Olympic-distance, so came out for one loop on the bike with a transition run. Tim stood us up. He'll pay later (insert evil laugh here).

The goal for myself, Eric, & Mandy was to do two loops (56 miles of HILLLLLLS) on the bike, and one loop of the run (6 miles). Unfortunately, we all apparently need to have GPS units installed on your bikes because we spent almost as much time lost and off-course as we did on. Several other athletes were doing their pre-ride that day, and every one of them that I talked to ended up lost at one point or another. It's great riding out there, but a little confusing getting into and out of the town of Lake Stevens.

When all was said & done we had ridden for 2.5 hours of leg-screaming hills, and ran for an hour (or a little more). Eric & Mandy dropped me like yesterday's news on the run, and around mile 4 I got stung by a bee just above my right eye. I'm not allergic, but it felt like someone was drilling into my head! I decided to turn back before the official turn-around, and beat Eric & Mandy back by about 10 minutes. They did the full 6 miles, I think I did 4.5-5.

All in all a successful day. I only got a handful of pictures... need to buy a more portable camera!
